Report from Eldey: The calm afternoon with little motion on the sea and very good visibility was a promising start. A couple of nm from the harbour we saw a spout in the distance, but after waiting for 15 minutes for the whale to resurface, we decided to head forward and leave this shy individual in peace. After sailing out further in the westward direction our captain spotted a spout 1 nm  away and soon enough we were in the company of a very busy young humpback whale. The animal was constantly coming to the surface with a full mouth of water and made it possible for an amazing sighting close to the boat. What is close, you ask? How about when it came out 2 meters from our starboard side! The next spectacle was a single minke whale that we spotted on our way home. The whale was very calm and we managed to take a few beautiful glances at this notoriously elusive species. Lucky passengers, lucky crew, lucky tour, lucky day. :)

Report from Eldey: Beautiful weather in Faxaflói bay today! We started the tour with a great sighting of a big pod of 20 white beaked dolphins. Very exciting to see so many of them together! We got a great look at their white beak form the front. Next we spotted a minke whale, but it was a little shy and did not want to be seen again. We left the minke whale because there was a spotting of a humpback in the distance. As we approached the whale it went for a dive so we got a good look at its fluke. When we were heading back we got a glimpse of another minke whale but decided not to stick around because it was far away and was diving. We saw a significant amount of puffins as well as arctic turns. It was a great tour and everyone went home with a smile.

As we started sailing away from Reykjavik, the winds were promising, the swell was smooth and the weather was nice and dry.  The tour itself did not disappoint, as it turned out to be a spectacular journey. We started by spotting a group of illusive porpoises quite close to the harbor. Not to long after we sighted a group of chilled white beaked dolphins (around 5 to 7 individuals) that we could fallow for a while. Later on we found a minke whale and we re-sighted it a few times, while the white beaked dolphins were still around us, a bit further out. Finally, as we acknowledged the presence of a humpback whale 15 minutes away, on our way we passed by two Minke whales traveling by. The humpback whale provided an amazing experience, as it was feeding and it was possible to observe it quite close to the vessel.
