Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Our second tour today was just as bumpy as the morning tour, the wind had just calmed down a bit. However, there was a little less rain and also the sun made it through the clouds every now and then. This time, it was another whale watching boat spotting a group of white-beaked dolphins. Therefore, we headed over there and after a few minutes also saw them right in front of us. They went for a few longer dives but since they kept a rather constant direction it was not too difficult to spot them again. They were a bit more grouped together than this morning which made it slightly easier to watch them. We followed them for a while but then they vanished and we kept moving on. Shortly after this encounter we saw a group of at least 6 harbour porpoises. Even though harbour porpoises are not known for staying around big boats, we were lucky today as these porpoises were swimming around for a few minutes just 50-100 m away from us. We got some pretty nice looks at the porpoises with one of them even swimming towards us, making a turn and then swimming back to the group. After this awesome experience, we headed back to the harbour.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: The day after a canceled tour is always a bit exciting since we never know exactly what the sea conditions are like. Today the sea looked rather calm at first sight but there was a big swell that sometimes turned the cruise into a roller coaster ride. After about an hour, we saw a couple of harbour porpoises. It looked like they were surfing the waves before disappearing quickly, but just seconds later we saw a group of white-beaked dolphins coming towards us.It felt like they had found us more than we had found them. It was a group of 4-6 individuals that popped up everywhere around us. They were very scattered, coming up here and there so it was not easy to keep track of them but they surfaced pretty close, just a few meters away at times. We were able to spent some time with the dolphins and then took another turn around before heading back to the harbour.
