Report from Eldey: The evening was like traveling through a mirror, sea state was extremely calm so we had a lot of visibility in the bay. A good proof of that is the amount of cetaceans that we were able to spot during the tour. At least 3 different pods of white-beaked dolphins crossed our path. Roughly 15-20 individuals which were traveling quietly and some of them got very curious about us coming close to the boat. Minke whales were visible as well, around 8 of them were seeing around the boat at different moments. And last but not least, 3 different pods of harbour porpoises with 10-15 individuals appeared too, some of them when we were about to enter the harbour. It was a delicious tour from the very beginning to the very end.

Report from Hafsulan: Same conditions - just perfect conditions for whale watching. Sailing out into the bay was so beautiful and it should make it an easy game to spot cetaceans! First minke whale was spotted quite quickly, but it was an elusive one going after every surface for a longer dive, so we decided to sail further out. As said that we spotted a pod of white-beaked dolphins who were traveling relaxed as we approached. We decided to turn off our engines and just enjoy the moment. It was just so beautiful, this curious creatures came in really close and as the sea was so smooth we could easily see there entire body through the water surface. The pod consisted of 10-15 individuals who stayed quite some time with us, checking us out from all sides. When they decided to move on, we did the same and went to see some more minke whales, probably we met a 10 different individuals throughout the tour! That was just fantastic, we just looked around, not knowing were to first. In between another 2-3 dolphins surfaced but not being interested, they just moved on. Such a beautiful tour with lots of encounters and tons of pictures from our guests to take back.

Report from Eldey: There was no changes in the wind at all so our tour remained on a perfectly calm sea and there even was a little bit of sky! You gotta love this summer! Before we reached the lighthouse Grotta, a pod of about 15 white-beaked dolphins came to our direction and provided an excellent show! Then we sailed further out and eventually found a flock of feeding sea birds. We were right to check it because few hundreds of meters away we found Humpie, one minke whale we know very well, feeding around! And from here we traveled from one minke to the other, sighting about 6 individuals in total! We recognized another one of our old friend, Flickr, as well. In the process we could also observe another pod of about 7 dolphins. May the wind never blows again on this beautiful silk sea!

Report from Hafsulan: With perfect sea condition like today, whale watching was a easy game. Our first sighting was a harbour porpoise, 1 individual swimming by Engey. On the way to the deeper water we found a minke whale. It was quite relaxed animal and easy to watch. We even could smell it what was fun but not pleasant. Further away we saw pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins.They were traveling in the direction of another pod where around 10 new individual were swimming so we followed. Later another pod of around 10 or more dolphins arrived. At the end we were surrounded by many curious dolphins which were swimming around and under our boat. Watching dolphins we also got to see 3 more minke whales.

Report from Eldey: It was one of these rare days where the waters surface is so smooth that it mirrors the clouds above. The conditions for sighting a cetacean were just about perfect, the naturalists on the observation platform were having a great day at work. So not even small pods of harbour porpoises could hide from us, one on the way out and one at the end of the tour. Soon quite a few white beaked dolphins were in sight when they were traveling slowly and later on apparently feeding, as they were accompanied by arctic terns diving right next to them. Finally it paid off to seek the direction in which a flocks of feeding seabirds have been seen at least a mile away: 1 minke whale lead us to another, sometimes there were three of them in the same area, so that in the end not less than 8 of these fast moving, hungry animals were observed.

Bird species seen on today's tours include northern gannet, atlantic puffin, razorbill, common guillemot, black guillemot, red necked phalarope, northern fulmar, manx shearwater, arctic tern, eider duck, arctic skua, black legged kittiwake, lesser black backed gull, great black backed gull & glaucous gull
We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. Sea conditions are good and lets hope that the sun will shine on us. Hope you are able to join us on our search for these magnificent animals in their natural environment.
