Report from Eldey and Hafsùlan: Finally it feels like Iceland and were getting temperatures below the freezing point. It is wonderful to have it this cold because only then do we get to enjoy the beautiful snow-capped mountains surrounding the bay.
We sailed out with two boats today, Eldey and Hafsùlan, and decided to head into opposite directions in order to cover a larger area of the bay. So while Hafsùlan sailed along the Reykjaness peninsula, Eldey searched along the Snæfellsness peninsula. For the first half of our tour we were enjoying the wind in our backs, which quickly changed as Eldey decided to cross the bay and go to search the area around Hafnarfjöður. This is where we had been seeing a humpback whale in the last week. After some minutes of searching, Hafsùlan reported us they had an encounter with a pod of white-beaked dolphins. However, by the time we had reached Hafsùlan, the dolphins had left the area and clearly didn't want to play around our boats today. And while we continued our search even half an hour longer than we usually stay out on the water, we did not encounter any cetaceans. Of course everyone was offered a complimentary ticket to come out again for free and hope for mother nature and her whales to be in a showing mood. Spirits were high the entire tour and I have no doubts everyone will come back for another trip.
