Report from Hafsúlan: With the good sensations we get from the two first tours, we went off to the sea full of high hopes. The sun started to shine again and the sea remained calm and smooth. About 40 minutes after our departure, we saw in the distance several splashes. We didn't know exactly what we were handling with till we approached the area. Then, after a couple of minutes of uncertainty, a minke whale appeared suddenly. She started to surface a lot of times, and also started to swim in circles arround the vessel, in what seemed to be a sign of curiosity for our presence in there. After 20 minutes, she left for a long dive, and so did we. Unfortunately we weren't able of seeing any more whales, but in our way back to the harbour we glimpsed a small pod of harbour porpoises, so we stayed for a while watching them.

Report from Hafsúlan: We started to feel the threat of a couple of clouds as soon as we left the harbour. The sky started to get darker and darker, but the sea managed somehow to stay calm and easy. The perfect sea for going whale watching. About 40 minutes after the departure we saw our first minke whale, pretty far away. We tried to follow it but remained very elusive, and we have to let it go. About 20 minutes after we saw the second one, which doesn't seem to be disturbed by our presence. We spent some time with it, as it didn't go for a deep dive for quite a long time. We left, and in our way back to the harbour we started to see lots of pods of harbour porpoises.

Report from Hafsúlan: It certainly didnt feel like summer out on the bay. With a full overcast and a bit of wind we set out on the bay in search of cetaceans. We saw a glimpse of a minke whale early on the tour but as it seemed elusive we just kept on going towards our main sighting grounds where we then got great sightings. Over the whole tour we kept spotting pods of harbour porpoises, there must have been at least around 20 porpoises been seen on the tour. three other minke whales were also seen on the tour and they were much easier than the first one. One of them we followed for a good time and got great looks at. The sailing back to land was much smoother and felt warmer as we were traveling with the wind and swell.

Bird species seen on todays tours include: northern gannet, northern fulmar, manx shearwater, glaucous gull, Iceland gull, greater black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, kittiwake, black-headed gull, puffin, common guillemot, razorbill, arctic terns, arctic skua, great skua and eider duck.
Status: RUNNING
We are sailing out today from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik. Even if the sun is not shining there is very little wind today. There could be some movement on the boat due to an undercurrent.
