Report from Eldey: The sun was still shining and the water was so calm it looked like a mirror, absolutely beautiful. We headed out and enjoyed the weather and landscape while searching for whales. We spotted about 2-3 harbour porpoises but unfortunately they were gone very fast. We kept on going and found a dark back in the distance, and once we were closer we confirmed it to be a minke whale. It surfaced about 3-4 times, as we patiently waited in between, but it was quite elusive and we lost track of it eventually. We then spotted some dorsal fins in the distance and ended up having 2 different pods of about 3-5 white-beaked dolphins each. They were just resting at the surface and even came very close to us, giving us a great look at them. It was a wonderful day indeed, and another great tour with Elding!

Report from Hafsulan: Summer is holding on in Iceland. Another perfect day to be out sailing!  We headed towards the area where whales and dolphins had been spotted in previous tours. Soon after we sighted a minke whale.  As this animal was showing some avoidance behaviour we decided to search for something else. Later on we ran into 2 pods of 4 or 5 white beaked dolphins. We were able to observe them for a while, as one of the pods approached our vessel. After all our passengers were able to record all their videos and photographs, we started heading back towards the harbour.

Report from Eldey: We had the same perfect weather and smooth sea conditions than in the previous tours. So we sailed with the same pleasure in Faxaflói bay. We came back to the same area to search the whales that we were seeing in the previous tours, with the gorgeous volcano Snæfellsjökull in front of the boat. We saw first a big flock of birds one kilometer further. Those birds feed on the same species of fish than whales, so we decided to approach them slowly. It was a good idea because we saw a minke whale surfacing! This baleen whale was a bit shy and fastly desappear under the water. We went to an other area of the bay, spotted a new big flock of birds and an other minke whale was there. We were looking this beautiful and wild animal when 3 other minkes appeared! We were surrounded! During the way back we also saw 2 harbour porpoises lightly jumping out of the water. What a great afternoon tour.

Report from Hafsúlan: As the sunny streak continues, so does our good mood. It took us a bit more then an hour to get to a fruitful area, but when we did, it was a treat. We saw 2 minke whales that at times came out very close to our catamaran (~ 20 m). Next we spent time with a pod of white-beaked dolphins, counting ~ 12 individuals. Plenty of bird life as well in the bay. We decided to concentrate on the minke whale again and before we had to make way back to the harbour we saw a third individual in the broader area. What a delightful trip it was.

Report from Eldey: I hope everyone put on their sunscreen today, as the sun is shihiiiiining. Everyone was awestruck today by how incredibly beautiful the bay is. Not a ripple on the water and glitter everywhere from the sunshine. Birds were sitting on the water surface all around and also the marine life seemed to just be basking the sunshine. Our first encounter was with 2 very relaxed white-beaked dolphins just on a slow search for food in the area. They surfaced predicatbly and at a slow pace, making them very easy to watch and photograph. We only left their presence as we spotted the black back of a minke whale about 1 km ahead of them. As we approached, another 2 minke whales showed up in that area. But we stayed with this individual, as it was also being very predictable and easy to follow, watch and photograph. Even the 3 harbour porpoises we saw there seemed to be relaxed and in a mood for showing themselves more than usually today. What a start into the day, and there is surely much more to come.
