Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: The sea had calmed a lot since the morning, and it was really clear. The first sighting of the tour was a pod of white-beaked dolphins that seemd to be feeding under a flock of birds, while following this pod we spotted other dolphins a bit further out. We spent a while with both of the pods and enjoyed the playful calfs leaping around their mothers. There where a lot of dolphins, maybe up to 11 individuals. After that we got to see a Minke whale, but it was hard to follow it around, other two minke whales were seen on the tour, however they turned out to be just as elusive as the first one. During the whole tour we spotted a few pods of harbour porpoises, that popped up around the boat, they were easy to spot because of the calm sea. And in the end we did get to see a beautiful humpback whale. Not really close to the boat but we did get to see the big fluke.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Unlike predicted, the sea was even smoother than it had been this morning. Our first sighting of this tour were 2-3 harbour porpoises showing up close to the boat for a few breaths. But we kept going towards more lively areas in Faxafloi where, amongst very active birdlife, we also encountered at least 3 minke whales! Although the first of the three was very elusive and only stayed with us for one series of breaths, the later two minke whales both came up close to the boat numerous times so that everyone had a chance to see them. It was a beautiful sight seeing them with the sun shining on their backs.

Tour at 9:00

Report from Eldey: We started out on a fairly smooth tour with the wind pushing us from behind. It didn't take long until we saw our first 3 harbour porpoises passing by the boat. After around another hour though it really started getting lively. There were birds feeding all around  us and, best of all, together with a minke whale. It showed some incredible feeding behaviour that everyone could enjoy for nearly 30 minutes. Once we left this minke, we encountered a pod of probably 12 white-beaked dolphins, which included 2 calves. These, too, socialised and were feeding while we watched them. On our way back to Reykjavik, we encountered yet another Minke whale!! It was an impressive tour and we got to see some great behaviours one can only enjoy when watching these animals in their natural habitat, the open ocean.
