CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
Report from Eldey: What a morning! The sun was just coming up, painting the sky with all kinds of pinks and oranges, and despite the cold icelandic winter we were excited to sail out! We went out toward Faxaflói Bay and just after 20 minutes we spotted a blow in the distance. Turned out to be a humpback whale, really close to the shore, just off Viðey Island. We drifted closer and enjoyed the company. It was very calm and graceful as it dove down into the deep water. We hung around for a bit, hoping to see something else, but it stayed pretty quiet after that. So, we decided to head back to the harbour. Still, that humpback was an amazing highlight of the day!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 1300
Report from Eldey: It was a chilly, windy day on the water, with a bit of swell, but the sun was shining bright – perfect weather for a whale watching adventure! The ocean was calm enough to give us a great view, but with a little bounce in the waves, it was definitely a day to hold onto your hats (and your hot chocolate). We set sail and after about 20 minutes, we spotted a humpback whale. Sure enough, in the distance, we could see the outline of a humpback whale – and not just any humpback, but what looked like a juvenile. This little one was definitely playing hard to get. It was small and shy, popping up now and then, but never quite committing to the dramatic fluking everyone was hoping for. It seemed like it was teasing us, like it was saying, “Oh, you want a fluke? Sorry, maybe next time!” But the real showstopper came just when we thought the whale might have swum off for a nap. As we were heading back, the ocean suddenly erupted with energy. BAM – out of nowhere, the humpback breached right in front of the boat, flipping through the air like it was auditioning for Cirque du Soleil! The entire boat erupted in cheers – it was a spectacular finish to a wonderful tour. Talk about a whale of a surprise! Everyone was buzzing with excitement as we headed back to shore. I think it’s safe to say that the humpback’s grand finale left us all with jaws dropped and. If I had to rate this tour, I’d give it a solid 10/10 on the Whale Wow Scale.

The Humpback Whale is quite spectacular undergoing the longest migration of any mammal (5176miles/8334km one way), attracting females by singing to them and of course their energetic nature. On many occasions humpbacks have been seen breaching, tail slapping, fin slapping, blowing bubbles and spy hopping just to mention a few. The humpback is also one of the larger whales we encounter
