CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 0900
Report from Eldey: We went out in an amazing sea this morning, calm and beautiful. The sky was covered in clouds but not a lot of wind and not that cold so it was still pleasant to stay outside. We first crossed a pod of 2-3 harbour porpoises that quickly left and we continued our tour. We then found a first pod of 5-7 white-beaked dolphins, difficult to count because they were spreading a bit in front of us but there was 2 calves in the group. They came once close to the boat like curious of our presence but maybe they had some dolphins stuff to do because they took some distance with us. It was early in the tour and we wanted to explore more so we continued to search. Then we saw a second pod of 5-7 white-beaked dolphins with one doing huge jumps! We got closer and saw them getting closer to us on bow riding and staying around us for a while. It is great to feel this type of interaction with wild animals. They actually got closer to the first pod that were also in a friendly mood going around another whale watching boat non far from us. We left and looked a bit around before we headed back to Reykjavik.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: The sea was still perfect this afternoon with a great visibility. We spotted 3 pods of 2-4 harbour porpoises that were easy to see a few times before it was time for them to disappear. We continued and faaar in the distance we saw a blow. We took that direction and saw it again, this time a bit closer. We got closer and closer until we could see the black back of the animal in the distance. A humpback whale! We carefully approached and could see that it was actually 2 humpback whales together with one that we already know well, Neila, that made friend with a new incomer. There diving pattern seemed quite different even though they were clearly in pair, Neila was coming much more frequently to the surface than the other one. We could see them from quite close with the white pectoral fins clearly visible through the water. We stayed until more vessels approached and decided to leave some space to those beautiful whales. We looked around for more but could not find anything else so we enjoyed the landscape and came back to the harbour.
