Tour at 13:00

Report from Elding: Mild days are gone and now we are starting to get a proper taste of Icelandic winter. The temperature is still over zero but northerly wind has started to blow. Nonetheless, Faxafloi was extremely beautiful today as we saw the incredible Snaeffelsjokul crowned by a huge descendo moon. Wildlife was amiable with us today as we came across with a fast moving object a.k.a.. a minke whale and few pods of white-beaked dolphins with 15-20 individuals. Some of them felt like jumping just few meters away from our boat in an act that seemed to be a good welcoming from our neighbors. We couldn't get rid off of them as we encountered later on during the tour. Overall, a chilly but rewarding experience.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Elding: It was still dark when we set off this morning. The stars were still visible and the city lights looked beautiful against the night sky. While the sun slowly lid up the bay we searching for life in all the locations were we got our best sightings yesterday. We knew the animals were somewhere in the bay we just had to find them. On our way back to Reykjavik we spotted a blow 1 kilometer away. We sailed towards it and soon found a flock of birds and one humpback whale and one minke whale! However, the whales were very elusive and we never got a good look at them. When we were about to leave for the harbor we noticed a huge flock of birds! Around the birds we found a pod of 7-8 white beaked dolphins and one minke whale! It was much easier to spot and follow these animals. Such a nice way to end a morning tour!

Birds seen during our tour: eider duck, glaucous gull, great black backed gull, iceland gull, black legged kittiwake, cormorant, northern gannet.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today at 9:00 and 13:00. Sea conditions should be fine, but there can always be some movement out on the bay, and we do have complimentary sea sickness tablets for those who wish. If you need any further information please feel free to contact us by calling +354-519-5000, sending an e-mail to elding@elding.is or simply by dropping by our tickets office!
