Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We set off in fantastic conditions, the wind was very weak and the sea was flat. If it hadn't been for the temperature you would have thought it was the middle of summer! We were up and spotting very early due to seeing the humpback whale being so close to the harbour yesterday. We didn't have to wait very long before we spotted a pod of harbour porpoises. We got to see this quick, elusive species surface a few times as they headed in the direction of Reykjavik. We journeyed further out and it wasn't long before we saw a blow in the direction of Mount Esja. We had found a humpback whale! This individual was surfacing very irregularly, often not arching it's back or showing the fluke but diving for long periods. We did get to see it surface many times and got to appreciate the size of this animal. It did seem to be a grumpy humpy though as it wasn't interested in our boat at all. We then decided to move on and explore the rest of the bay to see what else it had to offer today. We had to wait a bit before we got to see anymore cetaceans. We got to see another pod of harbour porpoises so those who didn't get to see them the first time hopefully had a chance to now. Next we came across a pod of slow moving white beaked dolphins. This meant we had seen each type of cetacean now! They appeared to be milling as they moved slowly in no particular direction. It was a small pod but they did travel towards the boat on a few occasions giving us a good look at them. Having seen so many cetaceans today we headed back to Reykjavik very happy after a fantastic tour.
