Status 9:00 and 13:00 Tour: RUNNING FROM ANOTHER HARBOUR
Tour at 13:00
Report from Eldey: Doing the opposite route the the morning tour, we started our trip in Sandgerdi and ended up in Grindavik harbour. Not even 45 minutes as we sailed out of the harbour we saw our first blow. It was a solitary humpback whale which was very busy finding food what was evident from the short surfacing intervals. We said good-bye to this whale and continued our journey east. Not too long did it pass when we saw several blows on the horizon. Soon enough we were in the midst of 3 or 4 humpbacks diving and surfacing around the boat. We even had a few very special moments where the whales were 20 m or less from the boat, which gave us the chance to observe their beauty and massive size. Some of the passengers that were on the bow were very lucky too see 2 whales simultaneously showing their flukes cca. 5 m from the stationary boat! What a way to finish this fantastic tour on a sun bathed day. :)

Report from Eldey: We started our morning trip from Grindavik too but we decided to finish in Sandgerdi so we sailed all the way around the southwest of Reykjaness peninsula enjoying fantastic views. Apart from incredible sightseeing, wildlife was there to surprise us too. Many seabirds were amusing us while feeding and facing the elements but we weren't ready for what happened then. As soon as we arrived to the most southwestern point of the peninsula we started to see some action. Few blows started to appear in the horizon and sooner we were surrounded by humpbacks whales. At least 5 humpies came close to our boat and 3 or 4 more were seen in the distance blowing. Some of them were surfacing very close to us but they weren't bothered by our presence because they were too busy feeding over capellin, which is in big numbers in the waters around Iceland. When we left the area and headed north, we got blessed by another couple of humpback whales, this time an adult-juvenile duo which was surfacing in syncrony next to our boat. The sailing experience in the way back to the harbour was pleasant due to the tranquility of the sea state and the sun shinning over us. Definitely, it was a great day to be out there.
