Tour at 13:00

After the rain this morning, the weather had settled for the afternoon tour. The conditions were ideal with a calm sea and good visibility. However, this did not help us in our attempts at finding cetacean species. Unfortunately an extensive search of the best viewing locations in recent weeks did not provide any sightings today, returning to the harbour with only views of seabirds. Still, the views were stunning and the sea was like a mirror but still a slight swell. In the end we offered our passengers complimentary tickets in the hope they would have better luck next time.

Report from Eldey: This morning started with a bit of rain, but the sea was mercifully calm, there was almost no wind and soon we saw the first sign of the sun blinking through the clouds. We sailed out for over 90 minutes before we saw our first black dorsal fins not far away from us and it turned out to be a pod of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins. They were surfacing really slowly so that we immediately got the idea that they were resting in this area. We saw them a few times coming up close to the boat before the dolphins basically vanished. Even though we had gotten help from another whale watching boat, we could not find them again. Sometimes cetaceans are just like that, maybe not in the mood or just want to be by themselves. So we continued our journey and encountered briefly 2-3 harbour porpoises, but they turned out to be quite elusive and were the only cetaceans we saw till the end of our tour. That is why we decided to give out complimentary tickets to all our passengers to come again and find more whales, dolphins or porpoises. Still, the lovely sailing conditions made it a nice boat ride this morning.
