✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE | at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Wohoooo what a tour. I guess no one was expecting this when we left the harbour with strong winds and hail! But what can I say, that's mother nature. The swell had definitely calmed down since yesterday so waves were no problem. Just for the first half hour it was actually difficult to even look ahead due to the hail. But then, out of nowhere, a lunge feed of a humpback whale!! It was the same whale as we have been seeing since January 4th, but today actively feeding and thrusting it's widely opened mouth out of the water, with it's throat expanded, feeding on the big quantity of fish that were at the water surface. Together with it were numerous species of sea birds, at least 3 harbour porpoises and a very curious harbour seal. After the humpback had obviously filled up it's stomach, it began moving around the area, even lifting it's fluke several times as it got into deeper waters, but still staying with us for over an hour. The rain stopped and we could even enjoy the sun peeking through the clouds on our way back to harbour. So. Much. FUN!

Birds seen on today's tour: eider ducks, northern fulmars, black-headed gulls, glaucous gulls, iceland gulls, red-throated divers, greater-black backed gulls, common guillemots, black-legged kittiwakes, cormorants.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. The sea today is a bit rough and the wind is suppose to pick up a bit as the day goes on, so sea sickness tablets are available at the ticket office and on the boat.
