Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The winds picked up on this afternoon compared to the morning, but at least some rays of sunlight pierced through the clouds. After only 10 Minutes the captain spotted a Minke Whale close to Grottá, the lighthouse. The individual however, disappeared instantaneously. On the search for more cetaceans we headed further out into the bay. Sadly enough no whales were showing up for the rest of the trip. Nevertheless, we were able to view some Arctic Skua chasing seagulls. A disappointing finish for todays tours.

Report from Elding: Similar to our tour at 9:00 we found quite a bit of wind and waves as we sailed out into the bay. We headed fairly far North to cover as large of an area as possible in cooperation with our other boat. Unfortunately, this strategy did not pay off either, the sighting conditions were very difficult. We tried hard to find some whales and luckily also had helpful passengers on board. In the end we headed a bit further South to check out the area where the other boat had previously manageed to take a look at some minke whales. But by the time we got to that region the whales were nowhere to be found... Since we were not able to find whales, dolphins or porpoises on this tour we offered our passengers complimentary tickets on the way back. We hope that they will be able to come back for a free "second chance" within the next two years!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: we went out in rather strong north-western wind and started searching. To begin with there was not much birdlife but soon we found a flock of feeding birds, however with no whales in it. Again on we went and searched and searched, then finally after about two hours our eagle-eyed captain Vignir spotted a Minke Whale that was feeding amidst another flock composed of Kittiwakes. There was even another whale there; we did not see them often but when we saw them, it was brilliant, quick and steep surfaces, good close-ups, they were clearly way too busy feeding to bother with us, providing us with some well deserved reward for all the searching.
