Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The wind had picked up this afternoon but this was good because it pushed the clouds away to get blue skies and a strong warm sun. We searched for a long time to spot of first Minke Whale which surfaced a few times but soon disappeared. Then it was a long search once again until we saw a large blow in the distance, made very visable as the suns glare illuminated it. Once in the are we saw the blow a Minke Whale surfaced and close to the boat too, just 10-20 meters many times, then another soon appeared and we watched that one too for a couple of surfacing sequences. In between minke whale surfaces a pod of Harbour Porpoises joined in and surfed the waves until they disappeared aswell. A challanging afternoon but well worth it.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: We sailed a large area this morning with overcast skies, quite calm seas and a cold breeze. Our first cetaceans were a small pod of Harbour Porpoises, 4-5 surfacing quickly. Then we found 3-4 White-beaked Dolphins which seemed to be resting and not interested in us at all, actually they were very difficult to get close too. We sailed for a while longer and the bay looked completely empty of life. Suddenly another pod of White-beaked Dolphins headed straight towards us, a pod of 3-4 animals playing around and under the boat, then it was the Minke Whales turn. There must have been at least 5-6 Minkes in the area, surfacing close and in the distance, you could see the calm patches on the water made by the upwards and downwards strokes of the tail and hear the blow (exhaled breathe) when close. It was a very slow start to the tour but a very productive end.
