Tour at 17:00
It was along journey to find the whales on this tour but once we got there after about 1-1hr 20mins sailing the Minke Whales were great. Must of seen at least 5 or 6 individuals. They surfaced many times and 30-40 meters from the boat too. On the way there we also got to smell one. mmmmmmmm Minke Whale breath, you can't beat it. So this tour was definitely a fun tour for the senses, smell and sight. A lot of Puffins seen offshore also so not so many on the islands at the moment.
Tour at 13:00
We headed straight out to Faxaflói this afternoon to find the whales again. It was not easy this time. We spotted some harbour porpoises a few times but they always disappeared quickly, two times minke whales, which only surfaced twice and quite far away. Then we heard that some dolphins were in the area so we sailed towards them. This group of white-beaked dolphins was very nice, surfacing just beside the boat, under it and all around so we got a good look at them. On the way back to the harbour we spotted at least two minke whales, and this time they were surfacing many times so all our passengers could spot them well. On the way back we saw some puffins on the island Akurey. Even though the start was not good and it took us along time to find the whales the ending was fantastic. Goooood tour.
Tour at 09:00
In nice weather we sailed out to Faxaflói. On the way out we visited the puffins at Akurey and lucky us we spotted 40-50 of them. Further out in they bay we found a good area with many minke whales. Some of them came very close to the boat, some surfaced further away. We stayed with them for some time and our lovely passengers could have a good look at them. So again very nice tour.
Birds seen on todays tours: Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Arctic Skua, Arctic Terns, Puffins, Manx Shearwaters, Great Skua, Gulls, Guillemots, Razorbills and Gannets.
