Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: today it was a tour from Grindavik, for two reasons; northernly wind blowing into Faxaflói and also because last January was fruitful whale-wise off Grindavik. Due to the strong wind, we had to search east as there we would be better sheltered than if we had searced west, yet throughout the tour there was a lot of swell. As we searched for the blows of humpback whales or tall dorsal fins of Orcas, we observed the snow-covered seaside lava and the birds, of which there was some number, mainly various seagulls but also quite a few northern gannets in the freezing cold. As we had sailed all the way out to Krísuvíkurbjarg cliffs against the wind, we turned away from land and headed slightly further out before starting to make our way back to Reykjavik and then with the wind. which was much nicer. The water surface was uneasy and full of white tops which did not help us spotting what might have been around and so after over a three hour tour, we had to put this tour down in the books as a zero sightings one sadly. All passengers were therefore provided with complimentary return tickets so that they can come back with us for another whale-watching tour within the next two years.
