Report from Elding: What a wonderful evening. not many cetaceans but a great tour nonetheless. We traveled for over an hour to a location the captain spotted a huge splash in the far far distance. A HUMPBACK, not only a humpback whale but a whale we know very well. Mr. Square, a humpback we have seen frequently since 2011. For over two weeks in February 2012 this whale kept us company and was the only whale we encountered, An all year whale as it has been encountered in all seasons, winter, spring and summer. The last years it has mainly been seen in August/September. Mr. Square surfaced many times and showed his/her beautiful fluke to many times. Even got a lovely rainbow blow as the sun shone on the vapour. A minke whale was also briefly seen too on the way to the humpback but only 3 surfaces and gone and we were mainly concentrating on the humpback. A wonderful evening tour with the sun setting and music on the way home.

Report from Eldey: A sunny day out in the bay as we headed out in search of some animals. Our first encounter was not far from harbour, just by the lighthouse Grótta. It was a minke whale that surfaced in front of the boat and did a couple of surface before going for a dive and to a different direction. Then we sailed out further and we spotted a big blow in the distance so he went to have a better look. It turned out to be a humpback whale! When we got close it did 2 tail slaps for us and then we were able to travel with this individual for some time. It showed us the fluke and then it did more tail slaps before we turned around to head back to harbour. Awesome sunny afternoon in Faxaflói!

Report from Hafsúlan: A very nice afternoon tour with good seas and blue skies, YAY, blue skies, finally. We got to see a minke whale pretty early on, maybe after 30mins of sailing, surfaced a few times and we got a nice look. For most part it was heading away from us so it was difficult to show the passengers. We left the minke in peace and traveled on. We got word of another minke whale further out that was was feeding under flocks of birds. It did not disappoint and it was immensely fun watching them speedily bursting through the water under the birds for some yummy fish. We enjoyed watching this minke going from flock of birds to flock of birds feeding for the fish underneath but we hoping for some other species too so we set off. After another 30 minutes we spotted some splashes in the far distance, DOLPHINS!!! two large pods of about 10-15 white-beaked dolphins. They were mating and having a lot of fun splashing around and bow- riding. What a tour.

Report from Eldey: Once again today, we left the harbour in really calm conditions, with little wind and almost flat seas. We even enjoyed the Icelandic sunshine for most of the tour! Barely half an hour after having left the harbour, we had our first encounter with cetaceans when we came across a young minke whale. It was surfacing several times, very predictively around us. We stayed with it for a few minutes before continuing on our way out. After a few more minutes of sailing, we met another minke whale, shortly followed by a pod of at least 6 white-beaked dolphins! The pod stayed around us, surfacing a few times. In the same area as the dolphins were at least two more minkes. We eventually had to head back to the harbour after this really enjoyable tour.

Report from Hafsúlan: We had the luck of having a beautiful sunny tour today. Only a couple of miles away from the lighthouse of Reykjavik we saw our first cetaceans. They was a bit shy, but after a few tries we managed to have multiple nice sightings of multiple majestic minke whales. Soon after a group of maybe 5-6 white-beaked dolphins joined us. We switched from being with the whales and the dolphins and very happy to actively scan the surroundings for signs of activity. We even had a huge rainbow to the west accompanying us during the most of the tour.

Report from Eldey: Our first tour of the day was a wonderful trip. Sea was completely flat, a rainbow was standing in the sky for half of the tour and it was sunny, we couldn't ask for anything apart from sightings and we had tons of them. We came across with at least 7 minke whales, 2 pods of white-beaked dolphins (10-12 individuals) leaping and having some calves in between and 3 shy harbour porpoises popping up. It was unbelievable experience and very relaxed sailing.
