Tour at 13.00:

Report from Eldey: Quite a frustrating experience this afternoon! We knew the humpbacks where in the area, but they were nowhere to be seen during this tour!  We sailed to the front of Gardur's harbour, the place in which we saw the animals before, but the only thing welcoming us was the strong wind that was blowing from the west. We headed back just to scarcely see a minke whale surfacing twice. While waiting for that individual to come up again we were encountered by a pod of 4-6 harbour porpoises that left us quite soon as well. So we headed back to the harbour of Keflavik and, almost at the very last moment... there it was the humpback whale! Surfacing twice and showing the fluke prior to a deep dive! Unfortunately and since everybody was in the saloons getting shelter of the strong wind of that moment, I believe that none of the passengers manage to spot the animal. And unfortunately it never came up again. So we gave complementary tickets to our passengers, although we're quite happy to see around the shore quite a few whales and porpoises!

Tour at 9.00:

Report from Eldey: Due to the strong wind from the west we decided to depart from the Keflavik harbour to minimize the influence of the wind on our tour by staying in the shelter of the Reykjanes Peninsula. However, the wind was still strong but the sea was rather calm allowing for a smooth way out of the harbour. It took us about 40 min to spot the first cetacean of the day. It was a Minke Whale surfacing in some distance to the vessel. Unfortunately, this individual was very elusive and only surfaced two times with a couple of minutes in between. Thus, not all passengers got to see it. As we spotted a much bigger blow in some distance very close to the shore, we decided to change direction and closely approached the area were the blow was seen before. And we were not disappointed. We saw the huge blow of a Humpback Whale as well as its massive dark back in some distance to the boat but still very close to the shore. As we got closer we saw the animal a couple more times seeming rather relaxed and always entertaining us with the hugh blow, these animals are known for. After a few more surfacings we spotted a second blow just next to the first one. So we encountered the very rare event of a pair of Humpback Whales. On our way back to the Keflavik harbour we got a glimpse on another Minke Whale which was passing our route. But this was only a very short encounter as we had to go back to the harbour.
