 TOUR ON SCHEDULE | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Starting out with a gray sky and moderate winds may not be everyones favourite weather, but being that it was not raining and just above freezing point temperatures it was not so bad for Iceland in the middle of February! We sailed close to the Eastern coast of the bay this afternoon to search for whales and dolphins in calmer seas. As we reached Akranes, the fourth largest city in Iceland and about an hours sailing away, it seemed like we found a promising area, with many birds flying around and close to the surface. We slowed down to check the area carefully but couldn't spot any signs of cetaceans. So, we continued sailing and on our way back to Reykjavik, we spotted 1-2 harbour porpoises popping up. They were very elusive and were already gone the next moment. -very typical behaviour for this species. However, we want to show our passengers more than this and therefore offered everyone a complimentary ticket allowing to come on another whale watching tour for free with us within the next two years. Hopefully better luck next time!

 TOUR ON SCHEDULE | 9:00

Report from Eldey:  It was typical winter day in Iceland: cloudy, windy and cold. We cannot do anything about the weather but we are ready to deal with it by providing warm overalls and sea sick tablets for those who don't have strong sea legs. As yesterday we were lucky with a minke whale we had high hopes for this departure. With excitement we were scanning water surface all around us in a company of many birds. We got to see 2 harbour porpoises surfing on the top of a wave but unfortunately it was the only cetacean showing up this morning. Before coming back to the harbour we offered complimentary tickets to our passengers to give them another chance to meet with whales sailing with Elding or in Reykjavik or in Akureyri.

- Ewa Malinowska

Bird species seen today include: cormorant; great-black back gull, glaucous gull, black-headed gull, northern fulmar, northern gannet, common guillemot

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 9:00 and hopefully at 13:00 aswell. There could always be some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
