Tour at 20:00

The wind had really calmed down and the light was just beautiful. We headed straight out offshore and soon came across a pod of White-beaked dolphins, they kept changing speeds and directions which indicated that they were chasing fish. We stayed with them for a while, on occasion they came towards and travelled under the boat. We left them to it went looking for the Minkes. A blow was seen and so we approached slowly, the Minke then surfaced only 20 meters from us. We turned of the engines of the boat and watched as the Minke surfaced a few times all around the boat, sometimes only 5 or so meters. It was amazing. Such an interactive Minke. It looked like it was just diving under the boat to surface the other side but the Minke disappeared. As we headed home the light conditions got more and more wonderful  and as we stopped at Akurey to see the puffins it couldn´t have been better. The Puffins looked so lovely in the evening light. Best tour in a long time.

Tour at 17:00

The weather has been really nice all day and it continued like that this evening; sunny and calm sea. After searching for a long time finally we spotted some Minke Whales but they were always very far away and always surfacing only once or twice.  Then on our way back to the harbour we spotted a blow in a distance and then a black back. And this time we were very lucky. This Minke Whale was in a very good whale watching mode. It came very close to our boat so all our nice passengers could have a good look at the animal. Nice tour.

Tour at 13:00

The weather conditions couldn´t have been better. Almost flat calm and again the sun was on full power. The visibility was also really amazing too. The tour itself was somewhat like the morning tour. Not so many Puffins on Akurey but plenty out offshore. We went to the same location as the first tour and glad to see that the Minkes were still there. What was really nice was that we saw Big Missing, a Minke catalogued in 2009 and seen a lot this summer. Big Missing surfaced many times and less than 100 meters for us so quite used to our boat i think, seeing that we intend no threat. A great day so far on Faxaflói.

Tour at 9:00 Perfect whale watching conditions. The wind calmed down and the sun was out. Akurey (Puffin Island) had loads of Puffins sitting outside their borrows and swimming on the water. It took us a while before we saw the whales but then we found ourselves in a area where there were at least 5 Minke Whales and they were surfacing everywhere, sometimes less than 100 meters. So happy to see them again. Harbour Porpoises were also spotted but these were quite elusive. Hope it stays like this and that the Minke Whales don´t disappear again like yesterday.
