CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey : It was a pleasant morning to do whale watching today. We only got rain at the middle and end of the trip. The swell was quite low as we started our sail in the bay. It did not take us long to spot our first species : A humpback whale. It was again Mariupol chilling in the area. We got to see him a few times, showing us its beautiful tail as it went for a few deeper dives in the area. After a nice time with the animal we decided to continue exploring the area. While navigating we encountered our second species : A pod of 5 or so harbour porpoises. We got a few glimpses of these tiny cetaceans. Not long after that some splashes were seen in the area, it was a pod of playful white beaked dolphins. There was about 4 in the pod, including a baby. They were jumping, slapping the tail and bow riding. Such a pleasant sight to see. When their behaviour changed we decided to leave those animals to rest and explore a bit more the area. After 5 minutes we saw more splashes int he distance and it was a second pod of white beaked dolphins. This time at least 6 to 8, with a baby again, really active at the surface. We then got to enjoy more leaping, jumping, bow riding from the dolphins before we made our way back to shore. A well spent morning.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: It was raining when we left the harbour and we needed a while to escape the rain from Reykjavik. The sea conditions were excellent with a flat sea and almost no white caps. There was a wonderful double rainbow near the mountain Esja. We went in the area where the humpback whale was seen earlier this morning and we found it a little bit more in the north of the bay. In the way we also crossed a small group of 2 harbour porpoises and a minke whale that surfaced first far away in front of us and then on our right side. Mariupol was still calm, going for short regular dives and showing us its tail. We left when to many boats arrived and went from a minke whale to another. There were at least 6 in the area, surfacing a couple of times before disappearing. We also so many northern gannets plunge-diving, so impressive. Before we got back to Reykjavik we had another look to the humpback whale to see a last fluke dive. In the way back we crossed another group of harbour porpoises. Plenty of life in the sea!
