Tour at 14:00

Report from Hafsúlan: We sailed out of Reykjavik under a bright sun and kind winds. The lovely weather guaranteed a very enjoyable ride. As we were persistently scanning the area since we left the harbor, it took as some time to have our first sighting. We finally spotted a minke whale! However, even though we were able to fallow it and observe it a few times, this one was playing hard to get. It was being quite illusive and dificult to track, therefore we decided to resume our search for something else out there. We eventually crossed another one of the same species, but we only had a quick glimpse of it, as it was also being quite conspicuous. We continue looking out for another sign of presence of cetaceans out there, however we started running out of time and had to sail back home. Nevertheless, as we know this tour did not leave up to our standards, we gave all our passengers the opportunity to come on a second ride with us for free!

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: We started the tour in an unusual way, heaving an unusual heading and the guide saying the wildlife speech unusually early. All with good reason, because after 10 minutes after we left the harbour we were already interacting with a minke whale. It had a quite unusual dorsal fin and our researchers will very likely identify it with ease. After this lovely sighting we sailed out for about three quarters of an hour and saw a beautiful pod of maybe 15-20 white-beaked dolphins that were playing all around the boat. The best part was certainly when they decided to bow-ride, to jump in the waves created by the front of the boat. Great!

Tour at 10:00

Report from Hafsulan: We were happy to see sun again and had perfectly flat see. This morning we took a loop around a bay in search of cetaceans and we found 3 minke whales. Our first whale was spotted by our passengers as animal was surfing the waves made by our boat behind us. It was a very friendly and easy to watch minke as animals was kind of making circles around us. After a while we noticed that sometimes whale is bigger and sometimes much smaller. The only solution is that they were 2 minkes! Our last minke whale was encountered next to lighthouse Grotta, this individual was more elusive but it was a nice end of a trip.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out with little wind and the sun on our back. The sea state was very calm, only a little swell awaited us a bit further into the bay. After short time we spotted first small splashes and it was quickly clear that there was a big pod, probably 20 individuals, of white-beaked dolphins. A little later we crossed the path of another 10 individuals and again a bit further out a very interactive smaller pod of around 5 individuals. Especially the last pod was getting really curious about us, leaping out of the water really close to us, crossing under the boat and even riding the waves our boat was producing. It is always a pleasure seeing this lovely animals in their natural environment! As we proceeded in our cruise we encountered 3 minke whales, one of them surfacing several times close to our boat, so we could even hear its breath! The last one on our tour was really tiny but unfortunately also quite elusive. Anyways we had an amazing morning once again out in the bay!
