Report from Elding: We sailed out from Reykjavik under beautiful weather conditions. It was sunny and mostly clear skies, although there was a bit of swel. After about fourty minutes of sailing, we reached prime feeding grounds, where we witnessed large flocks of birds feeding, including northern gannets, kittiwakes, northern fulmars and arctic terns. We then saw a minke whale surface very close to the boat! It was elusive, but as we stayed in the feeding grounds, where there was a high level of activity, we soon encountered at least two other minke whales, surfacing around the boat, very close to us. We sailed back to Reykjavik, happy to have experienced this incredible, close-up encounter with the cetaceans!

Tour at 13.00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out from Reykjavik and went, full of hope, to the place where the humpback was sighted earlier today. In the search for the humpback we came across a big flock of northern gannets, and we stayed in that area for a while and enjoyed the large seabirds around the boat. Just before we had to head home, a pod of 4 white beaked dolphins came straight to us and curiously swam around the boat. It was a very nice sighting of dolphins, but our time had run out and we needed to return to Reykjavik. We would have loved to show our guest more cetaceans, and therefor we gave everybody complimentary tickets. Hopefully better luck next time!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: After few days stuck on land, we finally sailed out from Hafnafjordur to explore the wonders of Faxafloi. We faced a fierce wind blowing from the south but once we headed towards Reykjavik we sailed smoothly with the waves. We got nice views from tons of seabirds but the show was reserved for a pod of 4-5 white-beaked dolphins that surfaced out of nowhere. For our surprise, they were following a juvenile humpback whale. She seemed to be a bit upset raising her tail but we got very lucky to see this kind of interaction between two different species of cetaceans.

Bird species seen on today's tour include:  eider duck, Atlantic puffin, common guillemot, razorbill, arctic tern, manx shearwater, black-legged kittiwake, northern fulmar, great black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, glaucous gull, northern gannet.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik for the 13:00 and 17:00 tour today. There will be some movement on the boat out on Faxabay but the forecast predicts that the weather should be getting better during the day. Hope you are able to join us on our tour today.
