Status Tour 9:00 and 13:00: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Wind picked-up this afternoon giving us some glimpses from the cold wind coming from the north. As we were sailing, we could contemplate Faxafloi in its whole extension, even the famous volcano of Snaefellsjokull. We reached our main spotting area but birds were the only wildlife we could see. Waves got a bit high at some points of the tour making us feel like real vikings facing the brave seas. Nonetheless, we had brief encounters with two different pods of 6-10 harbour porpoises and 6-8 white-beaked dolphins that were crossing quicky and shortly close to our boat. However, the duration of the encounters was too short so we decided to extend complimentary tickets to our passengers.

Report from Eldey: With the sun peeking out of the clouds from time to time and the sea state getting a bit calmer compared to yesterday, it seemed like a good day to spot some whales. After an hour of searching and the northern fulmars escorting us along our way, we heard from a fishing boat that a minke whale was seen in the area. Despite our efforts to see the elusive animal, we were unsuccessful to find it. We turned in the direction of Reykjavik hoping that the tour could still be a whale one. No luck. We tried our best, but just couldn't find them this time and that's why we gave complementary tickets to our passengers. At least the weather was stabile, the sun was there and it was quite an experience to feel the strong wind on our faces on the way back.

Birds seen during our tour: eider duck, black-legged kittiwake, northern fulmar, great cormorant, red-breasted merganser, razorbill, black guillemot

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. The morning is beautiful but the sea could be a bit rough due to the wind last days. If you are sensitive to motion sickness we do have seasickness tablets free of charge at the ticket office. All our boats have inside and outside areas and to make the tour even more comfortable we provide warm overalls. Hope you will be able to join us today.
