Tour at 13:00 Report from Hafsúlan. The weather was once again perfect with a mirror calm sea and a strong sun. We sailed from Reykjavik Harbour to the area we saw the dolphins this morning. On the way we maybe saw 4-5 different pods of Harbour Porpoises (with 5-20 in each pod. After about an hours sailing we finally got to the area and was glad to see that the White-beaked Dolphins were still there, all in all somewhere between 30-40 animals feeding and schooling fish together. They were even leaping on occasion and you could see juveniles with the adults. We soon got word of a Humpback Whale that another whale watching vessel found so we waved goodbye to the dolphins and said hello to the humpback. It was a small individual maybe 9-11m long. A couple of times the humpback brought up its fluke (tail) and everyone got some wonderful pictures of the wild animals in their natural environment with the beautiful Icelandic landscape in the background.
Tour at 09:00 Report from Hafsúlan and Elding. We sailed with two boats this morning from Reykjavik harbour out into bay with mirror calm seas and a warm sun. It is summer!! The weather is incredible today and its only April, lets hope this continues. We sailed out far into the bay and after an hours sailing we found two pods of White-beaked Dolphins. First pod had maybe 5-7 individuals and looked to resting and the second with 10-15 individuals that were interacting socialising and generally having fun. They were bow-riding, leaping, breaching and playing around the boat. On the way back we got to see lots of Harbour Porpoises 20-30 all in all that were very scattered but it is so nice to see the porpoises again as they only really have been seen in large numbers the last couple of days.
Seabirds seen on todays tours include; Fulmars, a Gannet, Kittiwakes, Cormorants and Eider Ducks.
