Tour at 13:00

Like in the morning we spent some time searching but then went straight to the area where we spotted the whales this morning. We spotted a blow and waited for the whale to whom the blow belonged when we suddenly spotted another, huge blow in the distance. We went right away towards the huge blow and several times could see a blow, a black back and then finally a huge fluke. It was a humpback whale! It took us some time to get close to it because it was travelling towards Reykjavik harbour, and it always dived for rather a long time. It was really a huge and large animal!!! It started lobtailing and seemed to be a bit angry or annoyed. After following this big humpback whale for quite a while we decided to leave it to get back to Reykjavik harbour. Just at this moment it changed direction and swam right beside the boat. We could see its whole body at the surface, from mouth to tail, and we couldn´t believe how large it was!!

A beautiful and sunny day! We spotted at least three minke whales on this tour. They hid themselves rather far out in Faxaflói bay and it took us some time to get there. We had two of them surfacing close to the boat several times but the third one we only spotted from far away. We didn´t try to approach it because we had already one minke whale close to us. The birds are arriving at this time of the year and it is fun to watch more and more different ones arriving every day. We can almost be sure now that we will spot puffins somewhere on the ocean.
