Tour at 19:00

Report from Elding: Once again we left for tour under the sunshine. It was quite windy however and the wind continued to pick up on our way out. Even though our captain had checked the forecast before leaving, the weather in Iceland can be unpredictable, and the wind grew stronger as we continued to head out. After about 40 minutes of sailing sheltered by the coastline, our captain decided that for the safety and wellbeing of our passengers, the best solution was to head back to the harbour now. As many passengers were starting to feel unwell, this was definitely a wise decision. We would have been unable to reach our best potential sighting grounds anyway, as they are further away from the coastline. For this reason, we gave all our passengers the option of either getting a full refund or a re-booking, to give them a tour in the best conditions possible.

Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: We left Reykjavík with high hopes of showing our passengers cetaceans, but unfortunately on this tour we couldn't’t quite deliver. On the entire tour we had sunshine and the visibility was really good. We searched the bay intensely, but the only sighting we had, was 3 white beaked dolphins that was seen one time, and then disappeared. Despite our efforts, this tour did not meet our standards, and we therefore invited all the passengers back to try again, giving out complimentary tickets. Better luck next time!

Tour at 14:00

Report from Elding: Slight improve in the wind direction at 14:00, so we could this time head straight westward. It was nonetheless a bumpy ride, quite fun actually, yet passengers today proved to have a solid sea legs and the trip went well. We came across around 5-6 minke whales on this tour. They all seemed a bit busy so it took patience and some searching, but managed to the whales close enough so we could recognize Humpie, one of our most faithful companions, and meet a pair of minke and a smaller one, potentially a mother and her calf! The way home went smoothly after that, following the direction of the waves and with the sun in our back.

Report from Eldey: During this tour the birds were our gurus! Through our ride we kept going from one flock of active birds to another, and it would never disappoint! We always explain to the passengers of how much we rely on birds focusing on one point through a big commotion, because it usually means they are feeding. Some marine birds happen to hunt on the same pray as some whales and dolphins, reason why we always slow down and explore this areas more carefully. Today was not any different, as we kept shifting between flocks, we got to observe about 5 minke whales through out the tour. It was even possible to watch one of them feeding quite close to our vessel!

Tour at 10:00

Report from Elding: Beautiful weather as we sailed out of the bay this morning, although the wind was a bit strong. We sailed around, enjoying the excellent visibility and the beautiful view in the sunny, yet cold, weather of the day. Unfortunately we did not have much luck with cetaceans on this tour. We had spotted a pod of dolphin and a quick blow in the distance, but every time we got close, nothing was there to be found. For this reason, we offered complementary tickets to our passengers, thus giving them the chance to try their luck again with us for free, anytime in the next two years. We hope to see you again soon, perhaps on a less windy day!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Sailing out from Reykjavík in NW wind 10-14 m/s it was a bit chilly, but we had nice sunshine. We sailed for about an hour and was beginning to be worried if we were going to see cetaceans on this tour. Then we saw a small flock of birds and as we approached it, it grew in size. While we were looking at the birds, we saw a blow from a minke whale. We kept looking in the direction and managed to see the minke whale coming to the surface. This minke was was not interested in interacting today, so we continued our search. A good choice as we were happily surprised by a big pod of dolphins. It was a great encounter as 10-12 white beaked dolphins came to our boat and circled around us, some leaping out of the water, some bowriding. After enjoying these dolphins, we headed back to Reykjavik. A great day at sea!
