We are seeing more and more Puffins on our tours, which only means that they will soon be returing to the nearby islands for the summer where they come every year to breed. It is believed to be well over 100.000 pairs living in burrows on the islands each year! Now that is a large colony!

The Aurora forecast for this week, namely the next couple of days, is looking VERY promising. Cloud cover should be next to none and activity on the scale of 6/9. Wind should be fairly calm, sea state good and moonlight a minimum 1% illuminated.

Today marks the last day of the puffin season. In the next days and weeks they will become fewer and fewer on the "puffin islands" just off Reykjavík. They will fly south for the winter, where they will stay at sea until the return again next May.

We have all been waiting for this day, our first whale watching tour in Akureyri. The weather was definitely in our favour and so was the wildlife! 4 humpback whales, 1 minke whale and 2 pods of harbour porpoises were seen on the tour! After such an amazing start we can only look forward to our future adventures.

Soon more and more pairs will travel back to Iceland and settle on one of three islands located just off Reykjavík. The Puffin season usually starts in mid May, so the puffins are a little earlier this year than we can expect. We look forward to seeing more of them flying about on future tours!

Now although 21 April is officially the first day of summer this year, 1 April is the first day of our summer whale watching season!
We start with two tours per day in April at 9:00 and 13:00, adding another one at 17:00 in May and will gradually increase our departures throughout the summer with up to six tours per day in June, July and August!
