Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 1PM Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey:  We sailed out with very nice conditions, slight ESE 4-6m/s winds, long WSW swell of about 1 -1.5m which was only really felt when we slowed down and hitting the side of the ship which was very rare as our captain minimised this as much as possible. We also experienced a little fine rain but for most the tour we kept dry. It’s always amazing to see the rain falling in the distance with dark ominous clouds and dark streaks from them down to the ocean. At one point the sun was shining over Reykjavik but saw the rain approaching from the south which we admired offshore. We sailed to the same area where the humpbacks were encountered yesterday and searched the area thoroughly. Passengers spotted the small backs of fast surfacing harbour porpoises, at least 3-5 animals feeding around a few seagulls resting on the surface. We saw many birds, huge rafting flocks of northern fulmars, many shags flying by, common guillemots popping up and down from the waters surface and even the rare encounter of a few little auks, which are only ever encountered in the bay in the winter. We unfortunately did not find any whales of dolphins on this tour and thus offered our passengers complimentary tickets. It was disappointing but we still enjoyed the beauty of the scenery and hopefully some when home learning little more about these incredible animals and what we can do in our daily live to better their and our environment for the future.
