Report from Elding: today we had very strong winds coming from the Southeast, but this didn't stop us from sailing out and checking if the whales that we've been having close to Reykjavík were still there. So there we went heading to Esja mountain, expecting to see any cetaceans around Videy island. A few minutes later, we spotted a big black back on the surface, indicating that we had an animal around. And indeed, we saw a humpback whale beautifully going for deeper dives showing off its fluke. We knew this one already, and we could have many good sightings of Calamity, the whale. Very unpredictable, even when we were about to leave and explore other areas, this one appeared a couple of times closer to us, so we also stopped to check it out a bit more. After a while, we decided to see if the other humpback was still around. Closer to Esja, we spotted a big blow, and getting closer to it, we confirmed that Ekki, another humpback, was close! Ekki, just like Calamity, came very close, in which we got very close looks from it and cool pics! In one of the deeper dives, this whale, very close to us still, emitted a brown substance on the surface and we realized, it, very classily, pooped right in front of us. After spending a few more moments with it, we saw we were running out of time and started our journey back to the harbour. Although it was windy, what amazing  sightings we had!

The Humpback Whale is quite spectacular undergoing the longest migration of any mammal (5176miles/8334km one way), attracting females by singing to them and of course their energetic nature. On many occasions humpbacks have been seen breaching, tail slapping, fin slapping, blowing bubbles and spy hopping just to mention a few. The humpback is also one of the larger whales we encounter
