Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 1PM Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

Report from Eldey : We left under a light rain in this grey afternoon of December. The conditions were good with a long swell and not too strong wind. We had a first sighting with harbour porpoises that we saw surfacing a single time... so we hoped to have a longer sighting with another species as we continued our search. There were much more birds than the previous days, with a lot of northern fulmars and seagulls flying around and feeding. The birds gave us a had a good feeling about seeing a cetacean, because we often find bigger animals feeding on the same prey as the birds. Our hopes became reality, because we found 2 humpback whales in an area with a lot of seagulls. We saw them at 50 meters apart, but they were probably not feeding together as we lost sight of one of them, while the other came to the surface in 4-7 minute intervals. We had an amazing encounter, with the individual coming within 20 meters from our boat and letting us experience the powerful blow and impressive body, and sometimes even showing us its fluke. Very happy to have shared these unforgettable moments together, we sailed back to an almost dark Reykjavík.
