We sailed out into calm windless seas, partially cloudy skies and could already make out northern lights above the city. After a while, they appeared in full force. One band soon turned into many and suddenly the sky was filled with bright, dancing lights.
We set sails into a gloomy bay, but luckily the seas were calm and we got to enjoy beautiful sunrise during the tour. We ended up finding a sleepy humpback whale and a glimpse of a shy minke whale. In the afternoon we started with the minke whale, followed by the logging humpback whale. We could see it very close up, and its beautiful pectoral fins under the surface.
Right after sailing near Viðey island, we spotted a logging humpback whale! We also found a pod of 10 white-beaked dolphins with about 3 calves amongst them. In the afternoon, we first spotted a sneaky minke whale next to Engey island, and then the humpback whale from the morning close by - we could even see its pectoral fins and rostrum under the surface!
We sailed out with cloudy skies, and a fresh Icelandic breeze. We stopped by the Imagine Peace Tower on our way into the bay, and after waiting quite a while, our patience was rewarded with beautiful green northern lights across the whole sky.
We sailed out into a typical cold Icelandic night. First we made a stop at the Imagine Peace Tower, before moving on to see if we could find a gap in the clouds. After a good while waiting, we were rewarded with bright and dancing northern lights!
The weather was great as we sailed this morning and we soon found a pod of around 8 playful white-beaked dolphins as well as a humpback whale in the distance and a little harbour porpoise. In the afternoon we suddenly we saw 6 harbour porpoises popping up in formation. We continued our journey and as we were about to give up we found a sleepy humpback whale!
We made our way into the bay, sailing past the shoreline to admire the beautiful skyline of Reykjavík and the impressive beam of the Imagine Peace Tower on Viðey island. After a while waiting patiently, we finally saw the beauty of the northern lights!
This morning we found a feeding minke whale, 12-15 harbour porpoises and as we headed back home we found 20-30 white-beaked dolphins and a pair of humpback whales! A true Faxaflói BINGO! In the afternoon we found 2 humpback Whales within 5 minutes. We also stumbled upon a tricky minke whale as we admired Reykjavik's skyline in the sunset.
We were quite eager to sail out as the forecast looked quite promising. The moon was (nearly) full and it had a halo around it, and while we did see very faint northern lights, the clouds were hiding them, so we issued complimentary tickets in the end.
This morning we passed by Viðey island where we found 2 harbour seals before finding the 2 humpback whales from the previous day. The afternoon was calm and again we found the 2 humpback whales side by side and one of them even started to breach, at least 6x, before rolling and doing pec slaps! Meanwhile a sneaky minke whale swam by. What a show!
