  • NORTHERN LIGHTS CRUISE | 21:00

With many layers and hot chocolate in hand, we sailed out to enjoy the city lights before heading to admire the Imagine Peace Tower. With the clear skies, we saw a faint band of northern lights forming above mt. Esja that just kept getting brighter!

We went around the islands again and soon found a pair of humpback whales between the islands before catching a glimpse of a speedy minke whale and another one by Viðey island. In the afternoon we saw a minke whale and the 2 humpback whales again swimming side by side! One of them began tail throwing and tail slapping repeatedly, leaving us in awe!

It was a cold October morning as we headed to the islands where we had seen wildlife yesterday. We soon found a very cute little harbour seal who briefly checked us out before we found the same pair of humpback whales from the day before. In the afternoon, we again found the pair of humpback whales from this morning that were logging and fluke diving.

We didn't have to travel far at all this morning, as we spotted 2-3 minke whales right outside the harbour walls, a pod of 3-4 harbour porpoises nearby and 2 humpback whales near Viðey island! In the afternoon we found the 2 humpback whales and the 2 minke whales from the morning tour! All in all, a great day spotting wildlife so very near the city!

Tonight we had completely clear skies and as soon as we left the city lights behind us, we saw our first northern lights! They were shining bright and stretched out over the sea. As we were gazing at the auroras, we also saw a few meteors shooting by!

We had strong wind blowing this morning so luckily we didn't have to sail far out of the harbour when we spotted a pair of humpback whales and a fast minke whale in the distance. The wind had dropped as we sailed back out in the afternoon and we soon found the 2 humpback whales and the minke whale from this morning. What a great day, and so close to shore!

It was gloriously cold and sunny morning in the bay! Only 15 minutes after leaving the harbour we found a sneaky minke whale that came quite close to the boat and we managed to get a few pictures with Hallgrímskirkja church in the background. We stayed until our time ran out and eventually headed home. All other tours were cancelled today due to weather.
