Report from Hafsúlan: we went out after cancellations this morning and yesterday but were hit by the wind while trying to go out using our regular route so we had to pass by Viðey Island and follow the shoreline up towards Hvalfjörður fjord where, due to stronger winds than we had expected from the weather map, we had to retreat inside. We have often seen whales close to the fjord and sometimes in its mouth. So we went in and had a delightful time watching the stunning peaks of Mount Esja, Mount Skessufell, and Mount Akrafjall, cormorants taking off along the shore, and so on, all while trying to spot cetaceans that might have entered the fjord for shelter from the wind, that is for the same reason as us. As we had left the fjord, we did a short crossing before heading back to Reykjavik in the hope of seeing something but unfortunately no cetaceans seemed to be around today. But despite the conditions, few passengers became seasick and most actually seemed to enjoy the ride. Even so, we decided to give every paying passenger a complimentary return ticket so that they can come on another whale-watching trip with us free of charge within the next two years in the hope that then they will get to see what we would have loved to show them today.
