Tour at 13:00
Report from Hafsúla: We decided to sail out from Grindavík today and go from there along the Reykjanes peninsula to Sandgerði. We passed Eldey, a small island with sheer cliffs that rises to the height of 77 meters. We then sailed along the west part of the peninsula and there we did not get as good shelter from the northern winds so our journey got rockier and felt a bit colder. On the way we saw some of the most beautiful coastlines of Reykjanes, high cliffs that are home to many sea birds in the summer. It was quite amazing to see the big waves hit these high cliffs with so much power that the splashes went over them. The strong currents that go through this area bring a lot of nutrients so often we find this area to be quite lively. Unfortunately it didn't seem to be so lively today except for few sea birds that flew around us. We were not able to find any signs of cetaceans on the tour and for that reason we offered our passengers complimentary tickets so they can have another chance with us to see these animals.
Birds seen on today's tour: black-backed gull, herring gull, iceland gull, glaucous gull, northern gannet, northern fulmar, european shag, kittiwake, common guillemot, long tailed duck and eider duck.
