Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The wind had picked up a little bit since the morning tour. The rain still kept us company so we made good use of the flotation overalls that we provide. This tour soon proved to be very difficult. We had sailed for a long time before we got a short visit from a pod of 7-8 white-beaked dolphins. They seemed determent to travel north and we lost them almost immediately. On our way back we searched for a minke whale that another whale watching boat had seen. This animal was also very difficult only seen briefly by the guide. This was just one of those tours and we returned to harbour without a good sighting. We could enjoy a beautiful scenery and many rainbows! No cetaceans seen good on this tour so we offered all passengers complimentary tickets.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: The weather this morning was alternating between rain showers and some sun peaking through the clouds. We had western winds so the swells grew higher when we got further out, leading to some green faces onboard. It didn't take long until a pod of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins made an appearance close to the boat. Some lovely dolphins and the pod also contained one calf that surfaced close to its mother. Further out in the bay we stopped to search for a minke whale, we manage to see the whale 2 times in the distance. It was difficult in the swells to follow the whale so we sadly lost track of it. Instead we got company of a second pod of dolphins, 7-8 individuals were busy feeding but spent some time coming up to us and also jumping! Many bird species were seen on the tour, including a very late puffin which should be far out at sea by now.

Birds seen on todays tour include: glaucous gulls, Iceland gulls, greater black-backed gulls, kittiwakes, black-headed gulls, northern fulmars, northern gannets, common guillemots, razorbills, Atlantic puffin (1 ad), black guillemot, sooty shearwater (50+), arctic skua (late!) and eider ducks.
