Tour at 13:00
Report from Eldey: A snowy beginning to our tour as the passengers made their way to the whale watching centre, a converted capelin fishing boat that now acts as our gift shop/cafe/museum and waiting area. Passengers enjoyed the information boards and Steve the minke whale skeleton hanging above their heads as they walked on board the whale watching vessel. The sea conditions were good, bit of a swell further offshore, the wind minimal and the snow stayed of for the majority of the tour too. Near the end of the tour the sun started to set and it cast a beautiful warm orange glow to the clouds. A few birds flew past but otherwise the bay was very quiet and unproductive. We spent an extra hour out in the bay to increase our searching area but to no avail. We thus offered our passengers complimentary tickets in the hope they will see something on their next free tour that they can take any time in the next two years.
Seabirds seen on today´s tour include: Northern fulmars, glaucous gulls, kittiwakes, black-backed gulls and common guillemots.
