Status: RUNNING

We will be sailing out from Sandgerði today, taking our passengers by bus from the old harbour to Sandgerði. A lot of capelin are around the area and with them come humpback whales. On the whale watching tour yesterday we saw around 50-60 humpback whales along with an amazing wildlife. Hopefully today will be just as great.  Please add an extra 1 1/2 to 2 hours to your whale watching tour to account for bus transfers. The forecast predicts a little wind from the east so there could be some swell and there will be a little movement on the boat because of undercurrent.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Again we sailed out from Sandgerði and we hurried out to meet the humpbacks! The area is so amazing right now, whales everywhere. We soon saw blows from the humpbacks in all directions. The feeding frenzy from the morning had calmed down, instead the whales seemed more spread out. We didn't find any gatherings of whales instead they seemed to be pared up in 2 or 3 whales or alone feeding. We went from one whale to another and the tour total became 20 humpback whales! But many more were seen in the distance as blows in the horizon. One whale put on a great show for us and came really close checking us out, even diving under our boat twice! We also had an encounter with 3 whales milling around close together that we found really nice to see! A pod of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins was seen in all the humpback madness and it was fun to get a short glimpse of these dolphins. But of course this day will once again be a humpback day to remember! Join us tomorrow, the humpbacks seems to be everywhere right now!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: We left the harbour in Sandgerði this morning to catch up with the enormous amount of humpback whales that we saw yesterday. We could still see that all fishing boats were in the area so it looked that we would be equally successful as yesterday. We were right, this was an AMAZING tour! We had around 50 humpback whales!!! outside of Sandgerði and they all were busy feeding! Whales popped up all around the boat and it was difficult to know where to look. Soon we found a gathering of around 10 whales in an area and we could stay with these animals the rest of the tour. It was a feeding frenzy, the whales were eating krill that we could see in the water. Wide open mouths came up all around us. We were four guides onboard because even if you are not working you don't wanna miss an opportunity like this. We all agreed that this tour will never be forgotten! Check out all of our amazing photos of the feeding humpbacks!
