Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The summer weather continued on the afternoon tour and we all could work on our Icelandic tan throughout the tour. The sea also remained flat so spotting was easy. On this tour we headed to our normal whale watching area in the middle of the bay since the humpbacks weren't seen on the morning tour at the place outside Hafnarfjörður where we have been seeing them the last weeks. We had sailed for maybe 40 minutes when suddenly a humpback whale surfaced infront of us! Good to see that they are still in the bay but a little bit further out now. This individual went for long dives and spent very little time at the surface. We could see the fluke when it went for the deeper dives. Soon we got news of a large pod of white-beaked dolphins very close. We could see 18-20 individuals when we got there, young calves next to their mothers, adults and juveniles. A very good mix of ages in the this pod of dolphins. We got so good views of this pod when they came really close and swam under us on several occasions. Difficult to leave these cute cetaceans. Some last looks at the humpback whale again before we started to head back to Reykjavík. On our way back we had a second pod of dolphins with 4 individuals together, slowly milling. A great tour in the Icelandic sun!

Report from Eldey: On this sunny morning, we went out in to Faxaflói and soon started to head south towards the area where the humpback whales had been seen over the last two weeks. Except for a few long swells, the sea conditions today were good and it was nice being out on the boat. When we arrived at the „humpback whale area“, however, there were no signs of them or any other cetaceans. We covered the whole area with two other whale watching boats but didn´t find them, so we decided to move on and head further out and further North. After a while we came across a small pod of probably 4 white-beaked dolphins. First, they were a bit difficult to follow but we Caught up with them and finally they chose to come close to us, played around the boat for a bit. Then they were speeding up and headed out in the bay, so we could follow them for a few more minutes having them swimming next to us. We were hoping to also find a minke or humpback on the tour but soon we head to start going back home to Reykjavík.
