Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: On this foggy day we sailed straight out to the area that we left the humpbacks on the morning tour. We were so happy to see that the humpback whales were still in that same area just about 20 minutes from the harbour. We saw at least four humpback whales in this area and they were really showing off. Each and everyone of them were showing their fluke again and again. At one point we had three humpbacks within 50 meters from the boat. Absolutely amazing and everyone on board had a real good look of these individuals. After about an hour with these animals we decided to sail a bit around the bay and go a little further out. On our way back we encountered two of the humpbacks that we saw before again. Really an amazing tour today with lots of fantastic sightings.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was a windy morning with some lovely Icelandic rain. The overalls that we offer all passengers kept us warm and dry during the tour and today it was very much needed. We started searching towards the south and sailed for a long time before we spotted something. First we started to see big flocks of birds, mostly kittiwakes and northern fulmars. It felt really promising with that much bird activity. However the only thing we could see in the area was a small pod of 2-3 harbour porpoises that quickly passed us by. The search continued and we had almost given up when we were only 20 minutes from harbour but then... We spotted a blow towards the north and it was a humpback whale! We had time to see this whale 4 times going for deeper dives and raising the fluke high up as it did. This is so typical whale watching, you never know how a tour will be and it is also the biggest charm with wildlife. On this morning we waited for a long time and search far out only to come across the whales almost outside the harbour. All and all it was two humpbacks in the area because we could see the blows from a second individual further away. A challenging tour with a great reward at the end.

Bird species seen on todays tours include: northern fulmars, "blue fulmars", northern gannets, eider ducks, kittiwakes, Iceland gulls, glaucous gulls, greater black-backed gulls, lesser black-backed gulls and atlantic puffin.

Status: RUNNING

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik on a rather cold day. The wind is coming from the east and there will be movement on the boat due to swells.
