Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: The cloud had cleared a little bit when we headed out on the evening tour. Again the big swells gave us an adventure ride out and we searched for a long time again before we found anything on the tour. It was some passengers at the back of the boat that discovered the first cetacean, it was a minke whale that we saw briefly 2-3 times. After a long wait we decided to move on when we didn't see it again. When we had turned around and went towards Reykjavik we had a pod of harbour porpoises that some quick passengers spotted. This was not an easy tour and the whale encounter was not good so we once again decided to give out complimentary tickets to our passengers. We are longing for some weaker winds and lower swells.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The weather had not changed since the morning tour and we surfed the swells once again out in the bay. Close to the same area as on the morning tour we spotted a minke whale after a long search. We saw the whale maybe 3 times before it got lost in the swells. We could also see 3-4 harbour porpoises at the same time but just as quick as before they were gone. On our way back towards harbour another whale watching boat from a different company contacted us saying they saw orcas! It turned out when we got there that they had been wrong and now nothing was seen and it got us late back to harbour... A difficult tour with not so good sightings, we therefore offered all passengers a complimentary ticket valid for another whale watching tour with us.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was a cloudy and windy morning when we headed out in Faxa bay. The wind was from the west so it had built up quite the swell further out and it was long rolling swells that rocked the boat. It is pretty cool being out in conditions like that since the boat goes up on this high wave tops and then down in the wave valleys. We scanned towards the center of the bay for a long time without finding any cetaceans (whales, dolphins or porpoises). We came across a small gathering of gannets diving into the water and among them 1-2 minke whales feeding! We remained in the area trying to get good observations of the minke whales. At one point we got one surfacing close to us in the high swells giving us a good look. On our way back we had harbour porpoises passing by, in total around 10 individuals during the tour.
