Status tour 1pm and 5pm: CANCELED

Due to unfavourable weather conditions, we have to cancel our Whale Watching tours today, at 1pm and 5pm

Status tour 9am: RUNNING

We are sailing out from the Old Habour in Reykjavik today. There is some wind from the southwest so there could be some movement on the boat.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: We went out this morning in quite windy conditions and expected the sailing to be a bit rough on this tour. Therefore, we headed to the Southern part of our Bay Faxaflói to get some shelter from Reykjanes Peninsula which made the sailing surprisingly comfortable. However, we were surrounded by many white-caps which made it difficult to spot signs of cetaceans. During the second half of the tour we turned the boat around so that at least we were able to go with the waves and with the strong winds coming from the South. We kept searching but all we got to see were some bird species and a lot of spray every now and then soaking everyone on the top deck. Free showers! Suddenly, a small pod of 2-3 harbour porpoises showed up in front of us and quickly traveled along our side. They only surfaced 3 times but we were happy that we finally got to see something. When we were getting closer to Reykjavík, our Captain Gusti spotted a minke whale. It was fairly close, just about 100 m away from us but not easy to see due to the waves. Once it even came closer and our passengers standing outside on the top deck got a very good lock at it; and then we got to see it once more before it disappeared inbetween the waves. We decided to move on back to the harbour, and since this was a very short encounter we offered all our passengers complimentary tickets. These are valid for any other whale watching tour with Elding within the next two years. I hope to see most of you back on a tour with more success!
