Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: This tour has been a perfect example on how fast everything can change here in Faxa bay. What an incredible tour we had which started off under a blue, clear, sunny sky with almost no wind so that there was only a little bit of movement on the boat compared to this morning. So we set out in a very good mood to find cetaceans. After less than an hour of sailing we spotted the first blow of the star of this tour, a humpback whale. Interestingly it was accompanied by two white-beaked dolphins who seemed to be eager to play with the humpback whale which resolved in many amazing behaviours we were so fortunate to witness. Beginning with a beautiful breach, followed by surfacing right next to the boat and multiple pec slaps- simply fantastic! We also saw a minke whale, but the interaction between the dolphins and the humpback was just too fascinating to leave them. However time eventually made us leave the cetaceans. On our way back, we briefly saw 1-3 harbour porpoises and could enjoy a beautiful sunset. A fantastic ending to a magnificent tour.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Like predicted by the forecast the sea conditions and weather were rough in the bay when we sailed out. The swell and northern winds were strong but the rain wasn't here and we could stay dry while exploring the bay. After wandering along the North side of the bay I spotted a big and odd splash of water among the many white caps. Keeping my eyes on the area I saw a minke whale breaching out of the water! Unfortunately the animal didn't jump anymore and we couldn't find it again so no passengers saw it. We kept sailing but even if the seabirds kept us in good company we did not encounter any more cetaceans. Sadly we had to head back but not without offering all our passengers a complimentary ticket which will allow them to get on an other of our tour in Reykjavik or Akureyri for free within the next two years. We all hope to see them again on a more successful tour.
