Tour status 9 am and 1pm: RUNNING FROM ANOTHER HARBOUR
Due to unfavorable conditions out of Reykjavík Harbour we will be sailing out from Hafnarfjörður Harbour today. A bus will be ready and waiting for passengers at our ticket office in the Old Harbour in Reykjavík and drive off to Hafnarfjörður at the scheduled departure time at 9am. This will result in a slightly longer tour or around 4 hrs. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact our ticket office at elding@elding.is or +354 519 5000.

Report from Eldey: There was not much improvement in the weather regarding the wind and the temperatures this afternoon, but again we departed from Hafnafjordur harbour and got protected by the land, so the sea state was calm in our whale watching area. And when you go sailing, an easy sea is always welcome ! We did not have to much time to count our blessings, as quickly some passengers spotted 2 white-beaked dolphins. We stayed with this pair for most of our trip. It was quite draining to follow them, as they were randomly changing direction and alternating short surfacing and long dives. But we got perseverant and stayed focus, and thanks to the active participation of everyone on board we could stick with the dolphins and had them close to us on many opportunities, on different sides of the boat. It was not the easiest or the most plentiful whale watching, but it was a perfect opportunity to emphasize that team work is important while spotting wildlife, and that the "hunt" for close looks or pictures is also the fun part ! Our windy sailing home was quiet and smooth, and the indoor areas were made useful to warm up after long exposure to the cold.

Report from Eldey: Due to unfavorable conditions we left from Hafnarfjörður this morning instead of Reykjavik and it paid off because we got some shelter and the sea conditions were very good. We searched the bay for signs of wildlife and did see plenty of seabirds which is a good sign because the seabirds and the cetaceans often feed on the same fish and then we also know that there is some food in the area. The search continued until it was time to head back to the harbor but unfortunately we were unsuccessful in our search for cetaceans. This is unpredictable wildlife so there are no guarantees but of course we are always disappointed when we don't see something. Therefore we offered all of our passengers complimentary tickets which are valid for two years so they can come on another whale watching tour with us and hopefully we will have better luck next time!
