Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey and Hafsúlan: Welcome to 2017 everybody ! New year, new prospects, and hopefully more epic whale watching ! We started our very first 2017 tour on a really positive note. We were a bit worried about the swell since wind was blowing from the West, our boats did jump on several occasions, but overall sea conditions were not as bad as expected. Only about 50 minutes after departure, we came across a pod of 12-15 white-beaked dolphins ! After over a month of dry spell, could it be the return of life in Faxa Bay ? Whatever, we take it ! The dolphins remained at first cautious and a bit elusive, but after patiently following them we could get closer on several opportunities and sight their elegant black and white bodies. The icing on the cake was the presence of several calves and juveniles among the pod. We stayed with them for one hour and then ventured slightly further to see something else, only to find packs of algaes on the sea surface. The way back home was smooth and quiet, with wind and waves on our back. We started 2017 with a lovely encounter, and hope the full year will go the same way !

The Elding team wishes you all a Happy New Year.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik on this first day of year 2017. There is little wind coming from the West so there could be some movement on the boat out on Faxabay
