Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Our afternoon tour started with lot of snow falling down on us as we left the Harbour. Winter is finally here, let's hope it stays for a while. With the strong winds in our backs we sailed out again and headed for the area where the minke whale (maybe even two different individuals) had been seen on the morning tour. The sea conditions were not too bad but still it got quite bumpy during some parts of the tour. We searched for a bit more than 3 hours for any signs of cetaceans in the Bay but unfortunately they were either hiding very well from us or were doing their whale and dolphin business in other areas. Also the other two whale watching boats from other companies did not come across any of these animals. So we had admit defeat today and returned to the harbour while offering our passengers complimentary tickets to come on another tour with us for free within the next two years! Hopefully our amazing white-beaked dolphins and minke whales will be more willing to show themselves then!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: A gorgeous rising sun was our companion on departure of this morning tour, lightening the bay for us. Even with this strong ally, temperatures were still freezing out there, remind us that we are still currently in winter time. But as the wind was blowing in our back, on the way out we had a fine sailing and searching on the sea. It was a long exploration of the bay, with cold wind blowing in our face when we turned the boat and changed direction, until we caught sight of a minke whale. It was swimming toward us at the speed of light, passed on our right inside, and kept on swimming away without hesitation. When we turned the boat to start following it, we seemed to have a glimpse of this individual again on our back ?! Was it a second individual ? Were we encountering a ninja whale ? Sadly no answers were to be found, as after that we didn't see anymore of either whales, or of this unique individual. We kept looking around us on the cruising back toward the harbour, but we didn't spotted anymore cetaceans. Passengers were given complimentary tickets, and hopefully next time we can have a longer encouner with this (these) minke(s) !
