Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Challenging would be a fit word to describe our today's only tour ! Seeing an improvement in the weather, we decided to try our luck out and we were pleasantly surprised by the sea state. It was quite calm, and the wind was also weak at first. But our main obstacle remained for the whole duration of the tour: heavy rain. Visibility was decreased and for everybody staying outside it was a constant showering, but obviously passengers were eager to show to the North Atlantic that they were up for the challenge, as a lot of people remained outside on the look outs for cetaceans. At first there was only atlantic puffins and northern gannet to keep us going, but we eventually met a pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins. These shy individuals obliged to surface only 4-5 times before getting out of sight. We wanted more but it's a wildlife tour, the animals decide how it goes, so we just moved on and looked for more life. After a while we encountered a bigger cetacean: the humpback whale ! It was not much more cooperative than the dolphins, taking endless deep dives and only surfacing for a short period of time, but we stayed vigilant, and in the process we managed to see it lifting its powerful tail fluke out of the water before going for a dive twice. It was not an easy tour with all the rain and shy animals, but everybody stayed sharp and all of our sightings to day were bravely earned, which always make it feel special.
