Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: The weather started to look promising, blue skies, calm winds, perfect sailing and spotting conditions. A minke whale was the first cetacean to be found, quite elusive and very difficult to show at first but later relaxed and were able to get a few pictures. We travelled further in search for more and thats when the rain started, heavy rain droplets that soon soaked the body. Most passengers went inside but it was nice to have a few friendly faces still outside, watching the soaring fulmars fly past. It was a long time but near the end of the tour another vessel let us know of some white-beaked dolphins. A pod of about 4 that chilling out at first then soon started to speed up and leap out of the water. In the end turned out to be the best minke whale tour of the day! Whoo hoo!

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey:The wind was practically nonexistent this afternoon which made a nice change of pace from the past few days! Out in the bay we smelled some mackerel and soon enough that smell was overpowered the familiar stench and presence of a minke whale. About 500 metres away and quite small, only a few people managed to get a look at the animal before it went for a dive. The next time it surfaced it was travelling away from us and was therefore a bit more difficult to see. We weren't disappointed for long though because we received reports of dolphins from one of the other whale-watching vessels in the area. When we arrived we had one of the best dolphin encounters I've had in a while, with 3 very inquisitive white-beaked dolphins. Despite the presence of all of the boats these dolphins were more than happy to investigate each of us in turn and when we were the last boat left they displayed some pretty spectacular breaching behaviour, with one of them body-slamming the water's surface as they went along. Even the sudden deluge of rain during the encounter couldn't dampen our spirits. What a fantastic trip!

Report from Eldey: We were quite happy with the weather being different from the forecast - unlike expected we only had very little rain and the winds weren't strong keeping the waves very short. On our way along the western side of the bay we first saw 4 harbour porpoises that came to the surface 4 times each. Of course they often don't show themselves very long but anyone outside definitely saw them. After turning eastwards, we saw a minke whale surface a single time. Following, we had a nice encounter with a pod of 3 white-beaked dolphins. They were later joined by a fourth individual. They once swam underneath the boat and we saw them underwater! It was an encounter of about 20 minutes where sometimes the dolphins were close, sometimes far. Although it was very enjoyable, we still would have liked to show everyone a bit more so we offered a complimentary ticket to come out with us again.
